The most important 9 instructions after the procedure for placing dental implants.

Why do we need dental implants?

For a dental implant procedure to be successful, patients must strictly follow the instructions of their implantologist. After completing the treatment, he will give you detailed guidelines to follow to avoid future complications.

Dental implantation in Bulgaria is gaining more and more popularity, and the reason is the fast recovery period.

After the placement of dental implants, some of the symptoms are swelling, bleeding or discomfort, which will disappear within 3-4 days.

To alleviate these symptoms, we recommend that our patients take an antibiotic or painkiller that allows the pain to be controlled.

The first dose of painkillers should be taken before the local anesthetic has passed.

From the implant team of Medstom dental clinics we give you some tips on what NOT to do after dental implants.

Instructions after dental implantation:

1. Bleeding and dental implants

The first 24 hours after the operation the bleeding is absolutely normal. To reduce or stop it, you can squeeze a piece of gauze for about 5 minutes.

It is important to note that if the bleeding persists for more than a day, the dentist should be informed immediately.

Avoid taking aspirin and medications containing acetyl silicic acid because they dilute the blood and bleeding may increase.

2. Pain and dental implants

During the first 2-3 days you may have some discomfort. The pain will gradually decrease over the next few days.

Your doctor will prescribe a painkiller that will allow you to control the pain.

3. Avoid consuming hot foods and beverages after dental implantation

After completing the dental implant procedure, the patient should not eat until the effect of local anesthesia has passed.

Hot food leads to increased bleeding, so the consumption of hot foods and beverages should be avoided for the first 24 hours after dental implant surgery.

4. Observe good oral hygiene

The next day after the procedure, we recommend that our patients start rinsing their mouth with chlorhexidine or warm salt water: (1 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water) twice a day. Continue rinsing with the mixture for the next few days after surgery.

Brush your teeth and gums as usual, but be careful in the area where the dental implant.

5. Drink more fluids after dental implant surgery

Optimal fluid intake is very important. After dental implants procedure, the patient should take at least 8 glasses of water. Water helps with healing processes after surgery and also relieves pain and discomfort.

6. Do not touch the area of dental implants with your tongue

Patients who have undergone a dental implant procedure should not touch the site with their tongue or finger, as they may cause trauma that could lead to additional complications.

7. Avoid strenuous exercise

We recommend that you take 2-3 days off after placing dental implants, as well as avoid heavy exercise and strain.

8. Do not suck the wound

After the operation, the site is sutured with biodegradable sutures that do not need to be removed. Patients should not suck the wound, as this can lead to heavy bleeding.

9. Avoid smoking

Smoking has been shown to slow healing. Therefore, we advise our smoking patients to stop smoking, at least until the wound heals.

It is important for our patients to follow all the above instructions for a good completion of the operation for dental implants.
